  • Your child can read from left to right and top to bottom of a page
  • Your child can match spoken words with written words
  • Your child can identify letters, words and sentences
  • Your child can use phonic rules to "sound out " words
  • Your child can use pictures clues and context to help understand a astory
  • Your child rereads and makes corrections when what he or she reads does not make sense
  • Your child can easily read familiar stories aloud
  • Your child can make predictions about what will happen next in a story
  • Your child can ask and answer questions about a story he or she just read
  • Your child can retell stories
  • Your child can identify the main idea in a story
  • Your child can organize the information froma  story in a chart or diagram.
